(I'm biased. :-)) The flight between Shanghai and SF is actually amazingly "short" by international standard. Not bad at all. Enjoy your pre-term, and the beautiful summer in Berkeley. If you ever want to catch up on Chinese magazines, Cal's East Asian libarary is one of the  best in the world. You'll be surprised what you find there.
